I agree on both points. Man.... that white roof ruins it... hard to imagine a little of the wrong color can have such an impact.

I just love the rear end. It kind of reminds me of an AMC Pacer that has been squashed, painted green and with a yellow racing stripe from one end to the other.

I sat in one a long time ago. Actually, you have to contort and wiggle yourself in. If I remember right, it was a Group 7 racer design.

Ya, me too. Interesting enough, the design for the new model came from a guy in Seattle. Morgan liked it so much they are building it now.

The regular roadgoing Europa had a Renault 16 motor, the full race Type 47 version had a Lotus-Ford TwinCam, as I recall. That was a weapon! I raced against one (tried, anyhow) in the late 60's, loved it then, would kill for one now. They were considered somewhat fragile at the time, probably still are, which could explain why I haven't seen one for years.
Great "patina" on the Morgan 4, someone is having too much fun!

I finally read the new posts on this thread. Way nifty. Friend had a Isetta and taught me a trick about them. When parked near a curb, one could easily tilt the bugger against the curb on it's side.He often came out of the house after visiting my brother and find his car in that position. He also had a Abarth Fiat with the scoops on the roof. Really nice car.
Saw some pics of Leno's garage and he has an Allard J2X. I helped refurbish on in the 70's in my garage. What a beast it was.
All those means of burning gas were way cool!
Oh, we redid a Morris p-up truck too.
I guess I've had a hand in a lot of fun projects!

Believe the 1978 Honda CX500 was the first modern motorcycle to not have a kick start, not even a provision to retrofit one. Was also the first with tubeless tires. I had one.

Also currently have a 2009 Husaberg FE450 which is one of the first, if not the first racing dirtbike with only e-start and no provision to retrofit a kickstarter.

Interesting use of the Renault 16 engine and box, the 16 was basically a front wheel drive car with a mid engine a similar layout to the DS Citroen, with the entire transaxle ahead of the engine. turning it around meant rear drive mid engine, interesting that it was easy enough to swap the crownwheel.

I might point out that all 16's that came to Australia were column shift manuals right hand drive. Have you ever had to replace a starter motor on one? If so did you exhaust the swear word dictionary on that job?

Jeez,Riche! you know how to press my memory buttons! I had a 16 TS around '72. Very quirky, superbly comfortable, best seats in town, surprisingly good handling despite cornering on its doorhandles. Did you know that due to the crossover setup on the rear torsion bar suspension, the lefthand wheelbase was 3" shorter than the right? Didn't notice it driving, tho'.
The thing that mattered most for me was the good impression it made on the French secretary of the CEO of Renault Australia, I was dating at the time.....

After years of looking I finally found a photo taken in 1965 of my little brother and I and my first car, a 1958 DKW Junior, in an old family photo album and scanned it. Photo attached.

It was a nice sunny day up at the Sky Londa parking lot (across from Alice's Restaurant) today. So the Pierce Arrows and various other interesting old cars were started up, driven up, and put on display by their owners.

Here is a long, but very nice, slide show showing a lot of classic (if not vintage) cars displayed at the 2014 Techno Classica Show. The music will keep you awake:

I attended another car show today at the Brisbane (CA) Marina. Not all that interesting, but a few photos are worth sharing.

A Boss Hog with a (replica) '57 Chevy rear end. Very creative - but I wouldn't want to drive one, especially in hot weather.

The engine is a 350 ci Chevy small block with an automatic transmission.

Today's classic car photos are of a 1961 Aston Martin DB4 Superleggera. Note the license plate frame.

Lovely! I aspired to own a DB4 once, (70's) but settled for a Mk2 3.8 Jaguar instead. As a daily driver, I think the Jag was probably the better choice, wish I still had it, but that goes for any number of my old loves...
DB3's, 4's and 5's are bringing preposterous prices these days, twice what my house is worth, but what price charisma? I visited the works at Newport Pagnell in '69 and was amazed at the sight. It was like Santa's toyshop with elves in overalls wandering around picking body parts up from the long grass in the yard surrounding the body works, a couple of guys laying up Lagonda fibreglass panels (very poorly in chopped strand mat and polyester), V8 engine blocks, chrome wire wheels stacked out in the mud, and so on. The delivery yard seemed to be the main street of NP with a line of cars stretching down the pub. No wonder AM became serial bankrupts through that sad period and beyond!
However I still have to control my bodily functions when I see a DBRS, any of the 60's race Astons or almost any of the current models. Nice to dream...

When I visited the National Museum of Australia in Canberra I took these photos of the Holden Prototype Car No. 1.

According to the blurb on the website "Prototype No. 1 was built by hand in 1946 by American and Australian engineers at the General Motors workshop in Detroit. After months of durability and performance tests in America, three prototypes were shipped to Australia. This is the only survivor of the three."

There was a shiny copper-colored McLaren up at Alice's Restaurant today. I followed him home, north on Highway 1, until he turned off at the entrance to the Half Moon Bay Ritz hotel, which it too ritzy for my taste.

villa d'este is a beautiful manor on the lake of como, not really near to sicily. every year there is a competition of design, not only for the new production, also the MV Agusta has competed with the F4. once, in that garden there was a great restaurant there, by cipriani... very, very expensive (25 years ago I pays about 200,000 lire, nearly 150$ for a dinner!), but everything there was beautiful and worth all the money I spent.

Certainly were, Gerry. How about the 250 GTO !!! The last two 250's sold brought $35 million(2012) and $52 million (2014). It must be terrifying to be the transporter truck driver to these events, and do the owners ever get to give them a good blast on some back roads somewhere? In the early sixties a friend's family were the Australian Ferrari concessionaires. I got to occasionally sit in some of this exotica (including a 250LM) Little did I know then....
I would be quite happy with the California Spider, or the Alfa 6C, OK?

Today was TC day at Alice's parking lot.

The red one is a 1948 model.

I have seen so many classic cars lately, it is getting hard to remember them all. Here are some more from a car show that I visited today, including a VW Bug with a V-8 in the trunk and the stock engine in the rear.

That 'T' is like the one I had unrestored in my garage for far too long. Nice to see a clean example but I lacked the interest and coin to restore it. It has a new home now.

Went to day two of the New Hope (PA) auto show today. Different cars each day. Very impressive selection. Here are a few...

Car and motorcycle shows are great places to relive your youth and to see vehicles that you haven't seen before. Plus, I really appreciate all of the work (and money) it takes to restore and maintain these cars.

I love to look at the mechanical detail on these old cars (and airplanes and bikes). Wish sometimes that I had the time and money - and talent - to take in a couple. Certainly takes a lot to keep them running. I heard one guy lament to another Alpha Romeo owner that he wanted to show his Alpha.... but it decided to stop running this morning. The guy displaying his deadpanned, "yeah... they like to do that..."

Today was Shelby day (along with some other stuff, like a Morgan and a few old Porches) at Alice's Restaurant this morning. I have no idea if these are kit cars or the real thing. But here they are.

So I visited another local car show today and ran across these cars.

The first one is a Ford-Shay, apparently a Ford factory-authorized Model A replica that were built between 1979 and 1982, using a Pinto engine and chassis (so that is what happened to left-over Pinto parts ). This one is a Shay-Ford Super Deluxe Model A Roadster manufactured in 1980. See attached brochure.

And then there is this 1930's Chevy that the owner wants to sell for $44,400.

Also a nice 1950's-era Chevy woody.

Is that a Cadillac station wagon? It seemed as long as a city block.

And a couple of nice Ford hot rods.
