Asphald and Rubber published first pictures of new BMW bike. It's a tourist version of S1000RR or S1000R.

    Looks very promising IMHO

Looks a bit like the Yamaha Fz1 - pretty mainstream (other than odd headlights, presumably).
I'm sure it will be very capable, if the S1000R is anything to go by.

Oh man, I had the chance to ride it for a day. It's a beast. Goes like a bull, but doesn't try to throw you off. The cornering ABS was a revelation, too.

Seriously tempted to make the switch, but I've got a wife. If I didn't, the XR would be my wife.

On the test ride I also met a (quite fetching) rider who says she does plenty of laps on her RR, but was now thinking of trading it in for the XR. It's that good, and able to draw riders of all ilk in. Reminds me of my old FZS1000, but with brilliant electronics. Guard the chequebook if you test ride one!

Interestingly it's only 0.2 sec quicker than the R12R 0-100 km/h and max torque is a tad lower than the R12R

Ok, I now want the S1000XR vs. R1200RS shootout. Just for the hell of it.

I haven't tried the R12R, but the XR pulled like a demon to 240km/h, which the GS certainly wouldn't do! Some of the other guys passed 250km/h comfortably on it. So much want right now :p

Wow Pogi, I'm feeling jello as! I'm amping hard on this bike at the moment like I haven't about a bike before... (see the RS thread in the GT section)
Don't know when or where I'll have to go to test ride, local dealer being renovated at the moment, plus Australia often a bit slower BUT wow...
Did you actually have it for a full day? Tell me anything else about it mate... anything...

Donnie, I had it for a day (about 9.30am to 6pm) and had a lovely route in Spain to do. I guess one thing you'd miss about your ST if you got an XR is the fuel economy; I somehow managed a rather embarrassing 7.5L/100km on the latter.

Offset by the 20L tank, Pogi? As long as I can go a similar distance (or a bit more) on a tank I'd be happy
I bet it sounded good while you only managed 7.5L/100...
