Hopefully someone can help me, I want to replace one of the bolts holding the handlebars and fit a Ram ball (see picture below), has anyone done this, and if so have you got a link to a product which will fit, if not is it an M8 thread and what length do I need?

Carlos, I really cant recall, but you must have basic tools surely, it might even have been supplied with the bike. otherwise a cheap purchase from ebay of a set of Torx sockets will do it.
I am no mechanic but I didnt find it a problem, to fit, just use a knife to lift the blanking cap out of the existing bolt head, remove the existing bolt and fit the Ram mount using whichever length of bolt is best for your installation. The kit of parts came with a selection of 3 lengths, depending on the installation, assuming you may have fitted bar risers as well, I think I used the longest bolt as I have high risers on my bike.
then refit the blanking cap, and all is very neat[/ATTACH]Click image for larger version.

I have a full set of torx sockets but the handlebar bolts are male rather than female.

Research says it's an E10 torx which I don't have, a u-bolt handlebar mounted ball might be a more cost effective option.

Carlos, try using a metric socket size either 7 or 8 as I used one lf these to remove mine when I fitted bar risers. I use the quarter inch size sockets etc.

If in doubt, purchase the ball head bolt, and we could meet up and I would ring the sockets to do the job.

An 8mm does fit but it's not perfect and can burr the stars on the bolt. I've now bought an E10 inverted torx socket with a 1/2 inch drive off Amazon for my tool kit.

I would have thought the 1/2 inch kit would be too strong for the bars. I use the 1/4 drive for the majority of fittings, plus lighter to carry than the 1/2.

Carlos, it is strange you say that about the 8mm socket, I appreciate it is as you say loose, but not that loose to the extent where I found it to cause damage to the torx head, even though it was tight to remove, but when re-fitting it has been advised caution not to over tighten as this could create stripped threads, as I would assume you would be well aware of when using the 1/2inch sockets.

As long as your happy, that is all what counts, though I hope my suggestion was appreciated.

It needs 25 nm which is pretty tight, I have a torque wrench with a 1/2 inch drive so I'm sure it will be fine.

Carlos - is that 25 nm to tighten the steering clamp bolt? And is any thread glue necessary to tighten the screw?

Very sturdy handle. I recommend it.
