Annual service on my F700GS, just oil and filter / visual, £150! Was gonna do it myself but as BMW approved bike want to keep warranty hassle free!
Anyhow, pull up at local Motorrad, Rybrooks at Wolverhampton, and F800R demonstrator available, just had to be done!
Didn't know but latest incarnations are 95bhp compared to my 700 at 75bhp.
    Anyhow, what a ride!
Engine so willing, tad rough 4-5,000 rpm, but over that so sweet!
Could feel difference in rain / road / dynamic modes, way it pick up was really impressive.
Handling and brakes, v. good, suppose aluminium cast frame compared to my GS with trellis frame makes a difference!
Motorway speeds cruising, with plenty left for overtaking.
Only issue I found was after 60 mins in the saddle, bum bones suffering a bit, and leg / seat height a tad low, achey knees after a bit.
Only other downer was lack of wind protection.
Still 800R seat is way better than standard GS, real crotch splitter!
Only other downer was lack of wind protection.
Previously rode S1000XR, great bit of kit but not for me, and latest 1200GS, again great bike, but as big as my GTR1400 so no real benifit in change.
    But this F800R, well impressed!
If it wasn't for the legroom I'd be sorely tempted to swap for the GTR, but dealer then says "new F800GT coming in next few days, will be the new demo bike"

I think you'll like the F800GT. Whatever you ride, I think you'll enjoy.

I have 5K on my 2016 and the vibration gets less and less as motor breaks in. I wish i would have waited for the 2017 for the upgrades but got a good deal on a leftover.

Agree re the GT. The rough running gradually disappeared over time, on about 11,000 now.

Re the seat. Think this gradually breaks in too! Had problems with mine at first (and had been advised by friends who had test ridden one). Hours in the saddle now no problem, might be my backside running in though!

Like you I tried the R first but got seduced by the wind protection of the GT. Glad I did.

The one you rode, Snowy, looks to have the low seat fitted. More room and comfort with a stock seat.

One up on F800GT. It's the best bike you'll have. Compared to the F800R, it is simply geeewwwwd.
The physics of riding? Just plain 2-wheeled sorcery
