I have a Shoei Neotec and love it, but it's getting long in the tooth. (Just like it's owner) Visited a BMW dealer today and tried on the new and improved Neotec II. The top vent is much different than mine. The top vent on my current helmet has a ridge, front & back, that makes it easy to open and close with gloves, while riding. The top vent on the II is smooth and it was not easy to open and close with no gloves in a showroom. Anyone have real world experience with this new version?

Didn't see it and thanks for sharing. They had the same observation about the top vent.

Bill,, I bought a new Neotec with the Christmas money I was given. The Neotec II was just a bit more I wanted to spend. So far I'm liking the Neotec but a 500klm day will be the test.

I have the original Neotec and love it. I'm concerned about the top vent. On the original it is easy to open and close with heavy gloves. The II looks like it would be difficult to open and close with heavy gloves. Was hoping to hear from someone who owned both versions. Thanks for offering to share your impressions after a long ride test.

I have the first iteration of the Neotec, like you. After seeing the review, I think I'd look at other helmets before settling on the Neotec II. The changes make the Neotec II better in some ways...but only if you think like Shoei wants you to.

I just received a Sena 10C Pro BT and camera...and it looks like that is more difficult to mount, and maybe impossible to use as a camera. That would knock it out of consideration immediately if it couldn't be mounted as a camera.

Ventilation was one of the reasons for buying the original Neotec. I find myself closing the rear vent because the cold air flowing through in the winter can get pretty chilly...and even with it closed, there's still some air flowing through. Now the new Neotec II doesn't allow me to close it at all.

And the helmet is now heavier than the old version...which was no lightweight anyway.

Helmet technology is constantly changing. I suspect there are some other brands out there that are very good and will address the negatives I see in the new version. Another consideration is to simply buy a new liner and cheek pads.

But if you're a BMW rider, don't you have to wear Shoei, Arai or Schubert helmets to go along with your Klim or Aerostich gear?

Heavier and no way to close the rear vent is a deal breaker for me. Will continue the search.
