I'm planning on a trip south in mid-August to see our youngest daughter "defend her thesis" for her PhD on August 15th. My plan is to go down Hwy 101 from Washington till it turns into CA-1 in California. I've never ridden (or driven) the coast highway.

So are there any "must see" stops I need to make?

    Thanks,
    Chris

I can think of a few of places to check out. Such as the Point Arena Lighthouse and the Fort Ross (day use) state park. At the start of your trip, the Lewis and Clark park is worth a visit and there are several military history partks in that area, too. I would post pictures of these places - if I could. So you will have to use the internet to see if they would interest you.

The Lost Coast out of Ferndale Ca, if you have time for the divergence.
There is a sea lion cave in Oregon that was interesting. Might be a season for that though.
