Have any of you noticed that Olympia Motosports seems to be dropping out of the market?

I was looking for something like the XMoto2 pants. I have the model that is two versions older and thinking of replacing it. Revzilla doesn't sell it. Motorcycle Gear has only a couple types of gear. And some of their offerings are on closeout.

Are they going out of business?

I hope not. I have Olympia gloves, a couple of jackets and over-pants and have been very happy with all of their products.

I called. It's not Olympia, but a company called Motosport. They are out of stock, also.

Motorcycle Gear sent me an email today. Note in the picture that virtually 3/4 of the product line is on closeout and in only limited sizes.

It's a bummer if they are going under because their gear was equivalent to competitors at half the price. It's hard to find something like their X Moto 2 pant that is a true four-season pant.

I have a couple of Motosport brand jackets that I bought about 25 years ago. They are some of my favorite fabric motorcycle jackets. However, I believe the company has gone under more than once since then and they tend to pop up again a few years later. Kind of reminds me of Gerbing's.

I hope they are not done. I have a pair of gloves that have served me well for 15 years or so. My friend swears by their gear and has several jackets.

Olympia gloves https://olympiagloves.com is a separate company from Olympia Motosports https://olympiamotosports.com/en-US

When Kevin and Karilea Rhea co founded Olympia Motosports, they liked the Olympia name and licensed it from Olympia gloves. Kevin and Karilea are both avid riders with a background in design and operations in the garment business. They built Olympia into a very successfully motorcycle gear company. About four years ago, they sold Olympia Motosports to a Canadian based active lifestyle company. They continued with Olympia under contract for three years to aid in the transition. My wife and i have purchased numerous motorcycle riding suits from Kevin and Karilea over the years. They were always passionate about motorcycling and the gear they designed and sold. After their three year transition contract was up, Kevin and Karilea left Olympia. I hope the company is not ceasing operations.

There was mention of the company going in and out of business, I believe there may be some confusion here, possibly with Motoport https://www.motoport.com I purchased gear from them many years ago, another quality company. There were some issues with company ownership when the owner divorced, but I believe, like Gerbings, the original owner is back in control.

The motorcycle industry is a challenging industry with all its ups and downs to build and operate a successful business over the long term.

Something that always impressed me was that when something like a snap or zipper pull broke, Kevin answered the email and sent a new part out free of charge. I was more than willing to pay for it, but he wouldn't take any money.

Their gear was really well thought out. I bought the AST2 years ago and the more I wore it, the more impressed I was with it. The Ranger jacket replaced it and a year ago, it was on Closeout. I decided that though my AST2 was still usable, to spring for the Ranger jacket while the opportunity was there. I'm so glad I did.

I bought the XMoto pants (I think that's what they were called) when they were on closeout. Then they went to another model name with few if any changes. The latest iteration is the XMoto2. I was thinking that perhaps I should do the same with the pants and do an "upgrade", though the old pants are like the AST2 was, still serviceable after all these miles. That's when I noticed they couldn't be found and I started looking closer at what was happening with Olympia gear.

I bought on a whim, some HMK pants yesterday. They should arrive tomorrow, Thursday. HWK Motorcycle Pants Cargo Pants Work Pants For Men Dirt Bike Adventure Dualsport Racing Riding Rain Waterproof Pant Hi-Vis 4-Season Armored All-Purpose
    • ALL-WEATHER: 100% Waterproof pants with a detachable REISSA LINING. GIGANTIC MICRO-MESH air vents can be used after removing the waterproof rain pants liner for tons of air-flow.
    • CE ARMORED (REMOVABLE) knees and hip protectors for impact protection motorcycle pants mens. Advanced reinforced poly-fabric 600D and 1000D textile outer-shell for abrasion resistance.
    • EXTREMELY HIGH-VISIBILITY: 5H Scotchlite reflective tape and piping motocross pants & silver body thread with reflective logo and fluorescent green panels. Adjustable waist system with hook & loop closure for highly customisable fit.
    • 4-POCKET DESIGN: Zippered waterproof hand pockets with additional cargo-style pockets. ALL-PURPOSE mens cargo pants can be used for all types of everyday travelling or working routines. These can also be used as motorcycle overpants with trousers and jeans.
    • LIFETIME WARRANTY: These ALL-PURPOSE daily-use HWK pants can also be used as tactical pants, work pants and cargo pants for men that will serve you for a lifetime, if anything goes wrong just message us for a replacement
Now get this...the cost is $30. "CE Armour" Removable waterproof liner. Cordura fabric. It'll be interesting to see what they look like when they get here. Will the quality be junk? Their other products are priced ten times higher along with the competition. Is this their attempt at getting into the market? At $30 and free returns, I figured I'd give them a try.

And amazingly, they are very similar to the Olympia XMoto pants.

Paul, you are correct. I was thinking of the Motoport brand of motorcycle riding gear. That name always confused me when it came to its spelling. I really thought they had great products at reasonable prices back in the day. I used to see their gear display at the U.S. motorcycle shows until they ran into some sort of business difficulties years ago. However, I haven't seen their riding gear in a motorcycle accessory shop in a long time.

Looking at their current website, I can say that their products are a lot more expensive and look less practical than they were when I bought my jackets and gloves in their heyday. It just doesn't look like the same company to me.

Olympia’s parent, Motovan Distributing, is deep in bankruptcy. As is their U.S. division. Most of the sales, marketing, and support staff is gone. There are some phone reps left pushing close outs. But that cart is getting pretty empty. I’d not hold my breath that you’ll get a response.
    Sad.

Just saw this thread. Wow...what a bummer. I have had 2 of their jackets...first rate stuff. My current Olympia Hudson jacket is awesome. Maybe by the time it wears out they'll be back in business.
