WASHINGTON STATE (The Borowitz Report)—Calling it “a tall order, for sure,” a swarm of murder hornets are openly questioning whether they can do as much damage to the United States as Donald J. Trump has. In an unusually candid interview, the deadly winged insects said that their initial plans to invade North America, spreading terror and carnage in their wake, have been largely upended by Trump’s performance this year. “We had been talking about coming to America for, like, forever,” one hornet said. “It’s obviously a huge market, and we wanted to make a big splash over here. And now this.”
The hornet said that, when it became clear that Trump was causing headline-grabbing destruction, “a bunch of us were, like, ‘Should we postpone our whole deal? It seems like we’re not going to get the attention we’ve been shooting for.’ ” Ultimately, the hornets decided to stick with their original launch date, but they are now confronting the unpalatable reality that “Trump has definitely left us in the dust, threat-wise.” “Look, we’re murder hornets,” the hornet said. “We’re going to do what murder hornets do. We’re going to sting people. We’re going to terrify them. But are we really going to engulf the United States of America in terror and existential despair? Trump has set the bar very high.”

Maybe this year will be the time that America discards the 'Presidential Race'. Having just two viable candidates with pretty unsteady foundations such a long way out from the vote is a bad thing. Picking the least bad of two old white men to lead your country seems to go against the purpose of a vote i.e. to elect a great candidate.
I wonder which of the two candidates will have the best quality Vice President? In the past I think many Presidents have given that running mate position to someone as a token 'thanks for getting out of my way' gesture. Others have applied it as a token of thanks per se. I wonder how many pick an excellent quality VP just in case things go bad. You know, as a protection for the people in case the old bloke dies or gets his fingers caught in the honey pot (again).
Of course there is no perfect political system. We humans are too flawed to figure that out. Like many, I flip flop on my views of my/our leaders as they change colour (red/blue I mean) term by term. Our Prime Minister is simply the temporary 'captain' of the team that the people voted in, usually for three years or so. But the team itself, the political party, can change their 'captain' if they are not performing. I must confess it has been embarrassing over the last 12 years or so in Australia to have the teams sack their captains so frequently....
But it must be worse in the US where, in the presence of supreme stupidity the 'team' are compelled to support the President seemingly no matter what. Maybe drinking bleach may prevent the President from getting the CHIIINESE virus after all? Maybe it will, maybe not. Give it a try. I say "try it, try the bleach'. Can't hurt. Might work. I say 'try it'.
Unemployment is hovering around 14.5% or more. We have entered numbers that have not been reached since the the Great Depression.
There will be queues around the block for a while.
In two days time in Australia most states are planning the first of three stages of lifting restrictions eg from 2 visitors to a household there can be 5; small cafes open for takeaways, then up to 10 diners with physical distancing. Small steps.
Here is our graph of new cases showing the long, slow tail we have before elimination. It is this shape graph that had encouraged our health advisors to ease restrictions. Our modelling suggests perhaps about half of those made unemployed in the wake of COVID-19 will have returned to work by July. That's about 850K people.
Meanwhile, I understand that many states and leaders in the US think it is time to 'open up'. The US graph is below.
I really hope it turns out well for you guys up there. The mathematics don't look too good, but hopefully the transmission rate will plummet, and like a miracle Mr Trump's prediction will come true. Feb 19th Trump predicts the virus will disappear. “I think it’s going to work out fine. I think when we get into April, in the warmer weather, that has a very negative effect on that and that type of a virus.”
Down under we have 'Fall' when you have Spring, Summer when you have winter, that kind of thing. For us it is now May, which comes after April. What order do the months follow up north?
The world has watched in horror as an American president acts not as the leader of the free world but as a quack apothecary recommending unproven “treatments.” It has seen what “America First” means in practice: don’t look to the United States for help in a genuine global crisis, because it can’t even look after itself. Once there was the United States of the Berlin airlift. Now there is the image of the USS Theodore Roosevelt crippled by the virus, reports of the administration trying to take exclusive control of a vaccine being developed in Germany, and federal intervention to stop the commercial sale of personal protective equipment to Canada. The world has been turned on its head.-Ex PM From Australia Kevin Rudd

What more would you expect from a failed, self-gratifying, pompous businessman trying to run, or is it ruin, a country that has so many weird contradictory laws and freedoms, whilst not accepting responsibility for his own failings.
That's my thoughts on it, looking from the outside.uh

+1 on that Steve. We'll have to keep an eye on whether he follows Putin lead using his "executive powers" to extend his presidential term by postponing the November elections then putting them "on the long finger" until the electorate have been significantly brain-washed!
