I prefer to watch repeats of the Simpsons than the news just now and like Richard my tolerance level is very low to repetitive news. I don't need all this doom and gloom ramming down my throat 24/7 (much like Brexit) but it seems many of the populace don't seem to understand what "stay at home" or "keep you distance from others" actually means.
My preference is Family Guy but as it's deemed too risque as it has to be an evening jobby, however as I don't pay for premium channels I only get to see older Simpsons episodes which are no longer cutting edge. There must be enough episodes of family guy to open a thread discussing the merits of it's various controversial aspects.

Oh sorry, I also value all your friendships. I got too wrapped up in family guy, gigety, gigety!

Well I thought a brothel would be classed as an essential service.

The state of Iowa has had 14 deaths. While I'm saddened that 14 people died, I'm thankful for the small number.

There is strong evidence that the actions taken in Oregon has made a large dent in the coronavirus and are working.

You'd have to look at the schedule and see. They have been doing it for years and I am sure they have not gotten any less ahead on things.

I hear that Boris is not doing so well right now. He has been moved to the hospital's ICU as he is having a hard time breathing and might need the help of a ventilator - if they can find one. Maybe Trump could sell him one.

Meanwhile, Trump and Pence are getting touched by half the people in Washington and still have managed to avoid the Coronavirus. How does he do it? Probably not clean living.

I heard last night that the Chinese city of Wuhan was released from lock-down, resulting in 65,000 people getting out of Dodge immediately. It looks like everyone else is now returning to their normal lives. Good news for sure and I hope the rest of the world can do the same soon.

I'm exercising given right to reply . Sounds like good news for Wuhan, the Chinese have had to adhere strictly to laws of the land or else....... Where I am, up to recently most but not all of the population have taken it seriously, so we're now in the process of having a total lock down over the Easter period! Fingers crossed it helps.

I will also exercise the right . . . . The governor of Iowa is a TAK and said "The CDC doesn't have all the answers" she refuses to issue a shelter in place. Where I live, out in the boonies, it appears most are doing a self quarantine.

Good for Wuhan people, but I'm still persuaded that China government lied about the spread of the disease and the number of deaths. I think they know about it at least since december, maybe they didn't say anything just to let us enjoy Christmas?
Isolation works, of course, here the spread is going down, but no one can rule out a second wave, if not in the next months, maybe in autumn or winter .
Here lock down was decided early, but not enough, I'd say, and in other countries even later, even though governments of countries all around us had a clear example of what could happen: no news on newspapers in Spain, election day in France, it's only a flu in UK, it couldn't happen in USA, newspaper B.S. in Brazil... and now body count all around the world. This is not a matter of left vs right, con vs dem, all of them played with our lives. I suppose (and hope, at this point) that lots of voters will remember. This is not to bash Xi, #45, Boris, Sanchez or Macron, but we now have to face that, thank them, this virus is likely to plague our lives for lot of time, since it's now wide spread.
Not to talk about economy, maybe a world wide lock down in december could have coated less, in deaths and money
    Su cunnu!

Police will be out over Easter, but not for breathtesting. They'll be out stopping people driving around on holidays with big fines being handed out to individuals. All the holiday destinations are pleading for people to stay away, they'd rather try and keep the virus at bay than get the virus or for it to spread. Good moves by both, I believe.

As far as the fines for being out driving, the individual fines will be for each person in the vehicle, no matter what age.

My newspaper this morning had an article about Wohan. It said that the lock-down might have been lifted but the people in that city have definitely not recovered from the experience. They are still maintaining social distancing, wearing gloves and masks and many are still staying in their homes. The article said that it was likely that many of the city's population would be affected for the rest of their lives by the events of the past two months. And, as Gunther mentions, the virus could return this winter before a vaccine can be developed and given to the entire world. If that happened it would not be good.

As of today (04/08) the State of Iowa has 27 confirmed Covid-19 deaths. That is a very low number and while I grieve for every death world wide, I feel any number is too many. To everyone who has lost loved ones, I wish you peace.

I bet the list will be longer in the U.S., whether anyone will admit it or not.

The BBC News said that on a normal day in New York City 25 people die at home. Since the Corona Virus, there are 250 people/day.

California has slowed its new reported cases dramatically. These cases are not part of the daily count.

“Coronavirus will accelerate the shift of power and influence from west to east. South Korea and Singapore have shown the best response and China has managed well in the aftermath of its initial mistakes. The governments’ response in Europe and the US has been very sceptical and likely to weaken the power of the western brand.”

I'm not surprised, USA have 4 or 5 times the inhabitants of Italy, and lock down started late.

I've heard that B. Johnson said thank you to doctors who saved his life... but weeks ago he stated that this virus was more or less like a flu... have I missed something?

What I heard is that he tested positive, went into the ICU but did not need a ventilator. He then started getting over the virus symptoms and is now out of the hospital and recovering at home.

The press statements was always that he was "breathing unaided" but he was on oxygen. No ventilator but that in my opinion is not unaided if you need an oxygen bottle/oxygen generator your getting a lot of aid.

Maybe this is not the proper thread to post this, but I've just been informed that Guido is in hospital, he suffers from pneumonia and uses a ventilator, maybe it's not due to corona virus, but he's in bad conditions, problems also with heart and liver, if I remember well. When I'll know something more, I'll post again with more infos.
I dare to say that if someone would like to send him some lines, he will appreciate.
    Hope for the best

Thanks Gunter. Guido and I have had private messages concerning things that are common to both of us.

Yes, I would like to send him a line or two, what would be the best way to do this at this point.
