BMW's active cruise control system

BMW is developing a radar-controlled active cruise control system. Likely something that is going to push the price of the bikes up again. However, I can see how it might be useful for those riders who are paying too much attention to the bike's TV screen, their cell phone and their GPS displays.

Fugit. A Go Cruise and a cramp buster. Old school but it works. and it's abut $20 bucks.

I used a Go Cruise on my GS and it was meh at best. It wasn't much use for me unless I was on a perfectly flat stretch of highway without varying winds, otherwise my speed was all over the place every time the grade of the road changed,, which describes almost every freeway around here. The new bike has a real cruise control and it's perfect. Road goes up a bit, speed stays the same, road goes down a bit, still going the same speed. Considering all the cars around me are holding pretty steady speeds, that's much more useful. It's not like I'm letting my attention wander, cars are still doing the stupid things that cars do, but I can at least give my hand a rest and not look like an idiot that can't hold their speed.

I have heard good reports of this company. Of interest to me is their development of throttle by wire controllers for F800GS and GT. but I fear they may be pretty expensive!
They are only a few miles from here, I will try and call them and find out (a) if they have survived the current business-busting situation and(b) if they have released the product yet.

So for a mere $874 I can have perfection? Well I don't think so, by the time one figures instillation and tax on the device, you've blown through a thousand bucks.
Admittedly the Go Cruise isn't perfect and it's not designed to be more than a temporary rest device. The Cramp Buster I had on my 1100RT BMW worked rather well. The positioning of the handle bars and the seating were ideal for success. That's the only bike, so far, that has been like that.
Nirvana is hard to find or just costly.

I certainly wouldn't pay for it in the aftermarket, the only reason I had the Go Cruise was because I didn't even want to pay for a Kaoko. That said when I was shopping for a new bike at the beginning of the year, cruise control was certainly on my 'want' list. Let's not forget we're talking about BMWs here and the cost of the bike was already north of 12k w/ zero options. Fully optioned only added $2500 to the cost and cruise control was part of the options package, so why not? If they want to improve it, cool, I'll still want it on my next bike even it it adds +$100 to the price. That's still a drop in the bucket compared to the cost of the bike itself. In reality I was just happy to see higher end options finally making their way down to mid size bikes.
