What are fellow riders plans for Next Year. 2020 has been a year not to remember and I am sure many of you like me cant wait until this Covid situation is under some control so we can continue with our shared enthusiasm and get back to going out having fun without restriction.

My interim ride plans for 2021 will be:

April: Weekend in France/Belgium. Probably do WW1 sites again.
May: Few days ride up North. Will probably do this to coincide with the UKSger Event.
July: Trip to Normandy with my daughter. I have never been but had some discussion with my daughter and she would like to visit so we will ride down after her exams next year.

    Whats your's??

I don't have a clue. It all depends if 2021 is going to start off like 2020 seems to be ending. Right now the U.S. news media is saying that it will take about a year before enough people get vaccinated and things return to normal.

I expect it will be much like this year was. I put on over 14,000 miles since January.

April will probably be a ride down to Death Valley, with stops along the way.
May will be a rally in Idaho.
June will be a rally in Eastern Washington to start, then a National Rally in Spearfish, SD.
July has nothing on the schedule ...yet.
August has two, maybe three rallies.
    September will have another.

And then there will be lots of long day trips in the state.

Like yourself, no boasts of traveling exploits this year I'm afraid. Ironically I'd a plan to visit Oberammergau as part of a jaunt down to Trieste but I'd have been an eejit to attempt that sort of journey in current circumstances.

However with the ever more enlightened news reports over the last week or so, and a return of a semblance of order, it's time to rekindle a few dreams and plan for a better new year.

Personally I think I'll be limiting myself to the UK for a while with first trip back home to visit family who I've not seen this year and pay respects to a good friend.

I've a pair of AltBerg Hog on order that will need to be picked up. That will be a good excuse to head north to test them out.

Have fun with your planning, don't forget to allow room to bring home some samples of the local produce.

Yep recent news on vaccine is promising. Good choice the Altbergs. I have a pair that have served me well. Very made well boot and comfortable. Lot better than previous boots and i think these will definitely last a lot longer..

Well at least now I know where the MOA National is gonna be. Maybe the Top of the Rockies just before or after? Wouldn't that be fun again?

Just signed up for an 18 day trip in July. Route to be determined, but it looks like if the border is open, we'll head north into Canada and Alaska. If not, we'll head south into the southwest states. Hmmm...might get a little hot with the second option.

I need to start stocking up on tires.

Looking forward to California and Nevada area AMCA (Antique Motorcycle Club of America) rides. Probably some on the '72 R/60. Always go to the Fort Sutter chapter AMCA (Sacramento) mid-June antique show and swap meet.

I've not been to Micky's do in Dent, but want to try this year (Simon's UKGSER reference), I'm also meant to be going to the French Alps in June with some chums, which was cancelled from this year. Also hopefully back to camping with the BMW Club and a few other jaunts.

I'd retired at the end of 2019, had lots of plans to ride, but Covid and a protracted house move put everything on hold.

Looking forward to a hopeful and careful 2021

Maybe we should organise an F-do

I'm planning my fist ever trip out west. My buddy who also rides lives in the Portland, OR area and has put together three, 3-day trips using his house as a home base in between trips. One up to the Olympic Peninsula in WA, one down the Oregon coast and mountains (Mt. Hood), and another down to the Redwoods and Crater lake in CA.

I'm still trying to decide if I am going to ship my bike out there (and fly), trailer it, or ride it. It's about 2200 miles one way from my house in WI. If I drive or ride, I could possibly time it to hit the nation MOA rally since I'll be driving right by.

Due to our state borders being closed, I missed out on the BMW TS Safari in November - for the first time in 25 years! The CV19 scene in Oz is looking very hopeful, there have been no new infections or deaths in our state (Victoria) for over 30days and restrictions are being carefully eased.
I'll be ready to sign up for the '21 Safari if all goes well, we don't get complacent and my health holds up. If a '21 Safari doesn't officially happen then maybe we will have to organise a private one - Tasmania and the Victorian Alps beckon...

My plan for 2021 is to put riding back at the top of the priority list. Last year seemed complicated/risky for travel, so I focused on other projects. Hopefully circumstances allow for trips back to North Dakota and Northern California to see key family members. So far AHRMA has a couple road racing events planned for 2021 and if they are able to hold them, I'll go. Wish it was Sonoma (old sears point), but Willow Springs will do just fine. Some years back I was doing an iron butt type trip through New Mexico and I always felt it would be cool to go back and explore....I found my favorite (old style Olympia) vented jacket on ebay, so I'm ready for some variable environment riding. ccramerusc, if you have the time and chance to ride your bike out to Portland, do it. I've rode between ND and WA probably a couple dozen times on numerous different routes and there's some really awesome riding. It's the journey....you won't regret it. This year there was no AMA flat track west of the Mississippi and no fans allowed!! If that changes and normal racing resumes, I'd be tested not to ride to Sacramento or Napa Valley for some good old American slide job racing. Oh boy, stocking up on tires seems like good advice.

I suggest riding. I've ridden out to a national rally for a previous bike I've owned, in Spearfish, SD a couple times now and it is on my schedule for next summer as well. Between Wisconsin and Portland are many "bucket list" rides that others would give anything to do. Somehow, flying at 37,000 feet ...just doesn't seem the same.

This is one of those situations where the destination really is the ride. Plan for it now, for the timing and what you'll see. Depending on when you go, you'll encounter temps from the 30's going over Beartooth Pass to 90s going over eastern Oregon. (Heated gear is your friend and Christmas is 18 days away!) Timing is important too. Crossing the Rockies and Cascades can be done at any time with a car, but some of those destinations aren't always open. Beartooth Pass and Highway is closed now and will open around Memorial Day Highway. I suspect Crater Lake has snow by now. Places in the Pacific Northwest close when the first snows hit. So plan accordingly.

Lolo Pass is 130 miles of wonderful road that follows along every twist and turn of the Lochsa River on the west side of the pass and Lolo Creek on the east side. And then there's Chief Joseph Highway and Yellowstone Nat'l Park.

I'd love to see the routes your friend has made for the trips in his area. It might include some areas I don't know about yet...and I'm always open to new riding roads.

And if it works out and you have the time, head north from Portland. I live north of Seattle and we have some jaw-dropping scenery here that will take your breath away...if you have any left after those bucket list destinations above.

Hope to see you at Dent then Wildfowler and maybe see womble there as well

No plans, cos it seems to me that the politicians have come to like their over-arching sense of power and will be very reticent to letting it go.

If the "A"holes that are allegedly in charge allow, I'd like to spend some time wandering round this island, visiting family & friends.

    Hi Steve,

Yes I will be there this year. Would be good to see a few more from here too. Great location and weekend. Hopefully after Christmas and any likely future lockdowns I will get out for a few rides down to the coast. I am itching to get back out for a decent ride again.

A couple rides I'm interested in:
North central New Mexico around the Taos, Santa Fe area and if the border gets opened, I love to do the Ice Field Parkway (hwy 93) between Banff and Jasper. Both sound great and the riding options there and back look really nice.

I'm tired of shoveling snow and want to go riding. Where's my shot!

I had to cancel the trip I had planned to Spain in May last year. But I managed to get over to France in late July/early August and two trips to Scotland when it was allowed in September and October. The trip to France and one of the trips to Scotland were solo so it was straightforward to take precautions and exercise caution, avoiding anywhere that looked risky. Having said that, I camped in France and while on some campsites the measures were excellent, on others they were non-existent or tokenistic and frankly quite scary from a Covid perspective. Brittany Ferries I thought did a great job, as did DFS, both of which I used (my sister-in-law had a bad experience with P&O - not safe at all).

Hoping to get to France again in June or September depending on restrictions etc. Either the French and Swiss Alps or the French and Spanish Pyrenees. I'll enjoy planning routes but will leave any bookings until last minute. But if all goes to plan with the Vaccine roll-out, and let's face it, that's not guaranteed, then a trip by September is a good bet. I will hopefully be vaccinated by then at age 61.
An annual trip to Scotland is non-negotiable.
I would hope to be getting out for day trips by May...

(+1 to Altbergs. I had a pair made and they're still going strong after about 30K miles. They've never let a bit of water in. A bit hot in the high twenties C though)

Hi Wildfowler and SteveT - I see Micky has had to cancel Dent as an organised do , due to the lockdown restrictions - are you both still planning to go? Could have an F800 do in a corner of the site!

    Hi Gents.

I am planning to ride south to Dent, probably head out on the Thursday and back on the Sunday. Not sure if eldest son will be able to follow me down as he has done over the previous 3 visits - time will tell.

Hope to meet you guys there . . . if it all doesn't turn to rat-sh1t . . . again

Hi Both - sorry, I didn't see your replies. Yes, I'm planning on still going, not booked yet, need to get on to that, looking forward to getting out on the bike and a bit of camping again. Travelling up from Dorset on the Thursday I should think.

I'm thinking of booking into the site and not just turning up, just in case there is a surge in fellow riders doing as we are planning - an ad-hoc small scale gathering

Hope to see you both there.

Shame you can't make it wildfowler.

Camping spot booked for 20-22nd incl.

Thinking of trapesing down on the CB500X seeing as I didn't get a chance to use it anywhere except Scotland last year

Dressed the little bike up for a loaded test run this afternoon . . .

Might test the softbags on it instead of the peli cases . . . or I might just lug all my gear into a HUGE roll bag and strap that to the seat

Heading to Winnemucca Nevada (from Lynnwood Washington) to meet my Harley riding brother-in-law who is riding from Albuquerque New Mexico. We will ride back to Lynnwood. After a week at my place we will take the North Cascades (Highway 20) and head South - route unknown.

I may also ride to Alaska if the Canadian border is open. Supposedly they will let you through if you plan to burn through British Columbia. Unfortunately, I would prefer to take my time in BC. Once you get too far North it's a long boring ride to Alaska.

CagivaRider, I can sure tell the pass is open (Hwy 20), been seeing lots of bikes packed with gear going through town. The North Cascades Pass is the best! What a difference from last year; scared to ride, couldn't go fishing..Ugh.. I'm heading to Utah in early June. Have never really been through some of the parks like Zion, Escalante, Moab, etc. and then up through Colorado. I expect it's going to be crowded, but better late than never. Just going to ride one day at a time and see what happens.

I'm surprised you couldn't go fishing last year. I can't think of a more "socially distant" sport than that and motorcycle riding.

I did a trip like it sounds like you're planning as my post-retirement ride. Headed south from Puget Sound and down to each of the five national parks in Utah. Then up through the Million Dollar Highway in Colorado, through the Tetons and back over Lolo Pass. Have fun. It'll be a good trip.

Just got back from a rally over in Idaho this weekend. The state went maskless and it was such a feeling of freedom.

Yes, that's kinda what I have in mind. Not sure why I've shied away from the Utah desert area for all these years, but interested in seeing what's there. Any suggestions for mid-June travel, going west to east through the main/popular National Parks... I'm expecting a wide range of temps and leaving a little extra time for zig-zagging to points of interest. My only set dates are to be at the Pikes Peak Hill Climb at the end of the month, fingers crossed for good weather there. Covid conditions seem to be improving almost everywhere so I'll take a mask and use it when I think necessary. Feeling very optimistic that this will be another great trip on the 800GT.

I found Zion to be beautiful, but the most packed of the five national parks. Bryce Canyon was next, and was not as crowded. As we traveled east, the crowding became less and less. Of all the parks, I enjoyed Capitol Reef the most.

I'd definitely bring the mask, but I don't think you'll find you'll use it much at all. Last year, I traveled 15,000 miles on my F800GT. Much of it was traveling. I had to adjust to doing some things differently, but it wasn't all that bad. Instead of slipping into the side door of a fast-food joint to use the restroom, I went into grocery stores. They proved to be handy also for breakfasts, since most restaurants were closed for dining.

It was doable, I just had to be flexible. I think this year will be even easier.
