Here is a link to an article about the Sondors Metacycle, which will be selling for only $5000. That seems like a fair price for what you are getting. From what I hear, just about every part on the bike is made in China. While Sondors is not a manufacturer, they appear to be the designer of the Metacycle and it is likely being built for them at a factory somewhere in China.

I might add that most of the parts, such as the chassis, motor, controller and other electronic parts of the Zero electric motorcycles are sourced from China manufacturers. Although they likely have been designed by Zero's 80 engineers or one of their consultants. However, their suspension is sourced from Japan, the brakes from Spain and many of their factory accessories come from companies in the EU. I am not sure if any parts on the bikes are actually made in the U.S. But I am sure that Zero motorcycles are assembled in Scotts Valley, CA, because I have seen their factory - which looked to me like a big garage with six work stands where the bikes were being individually assembled. Definitely, no traditional assembly line in sight.

I've not seen one in person, but given what I've read, even before this article, I think I would have done the same. The biggest issue is the sustained top speed being so low, that instantly disqualifies it from the one thing that draws me to it, being able to commute. I've got 20mi stretch of freeway that i need to be able to do at least 70mph on or there's no point.
0-60 is also a non starter with the short on ramps here. Based on my weight (220lbs) it's likely in the 12s-13s range.. for 0-60. If you have to stay on surface streets and can't out accelerate the surrounding traffic, then what's the point?
Over promised, under delivered and then raised the price 20%.
