Anyone have an update on Bob's condition? An e-mail where we can send best wishes for a speedy recovery?

Bob was riding a HD RoadKing. I was 2 bikes behind him when the head on collision occured. It happened while climbing a switchback on US19 toward Maggie Valley. In a nut shell, the passing lane came to an abrupt end while Bob was negotiating around a slow moving camper. A white Lincoln was coming down the other way obscured by the camper. They met head on.

Bob was airlifted out with a badly broken leg but otherwise fine.

It was surreal to witness and it certainly affected us in a very profound way. We were all very happy to hear that his injuries were isolated to his leg and that he would probably be going home by the end of the week.

It would be great to send him a note or card if anyone knows his contact info.

I have spoken with Bob and his family. He is doing okay. He has had two surgeries so far. One to stabilize his leg, one to repair his femur. His ankle was swollen so they are doing the third surgery on his ankle tomorrow on Friday. Thankfully the only real injury was to his leg. It's pretty bad but all indications are that he will heal fine. They were going to send him home on Friday but since they had to wait on the ankle surgery he will have to wait another week to go back to Va. He said thanks for all the help that those on the scene provided and for all the concern for him. He was really touched by the response. Especially since he was our token Harley rider in amongst all us Beemers. I will speak with him tomorrow after his surgery and let everyone know how it went. Please continue to keep him in your prayers. Thanks.

Hey Micah. Thanks for the update.

Please inquire as to whether I/we can have contact info. I doubt I speak only for myself. Many of us who were at the scene were profoundly affected, and need/want to reach out to Bob with cards, letters, emails, whatever.

I don't know the protocol here. I'm not sure I would want my contact info broadcast over this forum. Probably would not. I just know Deb asks me every day "How is Bob"?, and I wonder myself and want him to know we are thinking of him, and it would be impossible for me to care less what type of bike he rides. Just want him well and with us next year!

Please PM me with some contact info if the family agrees, thanks. Or your phone #, something. Really appreciate it. All we have on this earth is each other. Thanks.

I spoke with Bob's daughter tonight. She said they did surgery on part of his lower leg on Friday. It went well but still a lot of swelling. So they will have to do a 4th surgery on the remainder of this lower leg probably on Tuesday. It's all going well but they just want to take things slow and easy to make sure they put everything right. The real miracle is that he had not concussion or other injuries. He has a nasty bruise on his elbow but nothing else. She said his helmet didn't even have scratches on it. So certainly the best situation we could hope for. I asked about possibility of sending him cards or something else. She said she will ask him and see what he wants. She didn't know his room number or she'd give it. So, I'll speak with her after the surgery on Tuesday and let ya'll know what she says. I told her to pass on all the posts and words from folks here on the site. I am certain he greatly appreciates it. So, thanks to everyone for all your prayers. He is really doing best we could hope for. Thanks.

I spoke with Bob tonight. He is doing well. All surgeries done. The Dr's say most likely he can go back to Va. next Saturday. He said he really appreciates all the good words and prayers. He also said thanks so much to all who where there with him at the accident.

That is really good to hear. Especially that he will only need a chair for a few months.
