I'd be happy to pre-run the Uncompahgre later this summer if needed Another nice but long road/off road option would be Whitewater to Gateway (road) to Moab (dirt) and back either road or partial dirt (some options).

I'm really trying to get the wife to agree to this, it sounds like a blast. This will be by far the furthest that we have ever taken our bikes, she has a G650x country.

Hey Clayton, you're not to far from Oklahoma City, I'm leaving on Wednesday and going to wonder around northern New Mexico on my way to Grand Junction... I've been to parts of New Mexico before but never the mountains... I have been wanting to take a trip to Colorado on my bike for a long time... Try to talk her into it, you can take the state highways all the way there and avoid the super-slabs of boredom. Messing with google maps i came up with about 900 to 1000 miles from Earslboro to Grand junction... if you all leave on Wednesday that would only be 333 mile days... thats easy... Hope you get to go!

Peter, that sounds great, I even told her that if she didn't want to go that I thought there was a guy in OKC that I may be able to hook up with for the trip. Friday we are leaving on our yearly ATV trip to CO but when we get back maybe we can all get together for dinner and talk about it?

I haven't checked in on this board for for long time. I knew about the initial plans for a rally. Now, I see plan are well under way. I'm seriously considering making the trip from San Diego. It's 800 some miles. I'll probably do it over 2 days bit to and from. Anyone else going from Southern CA?

I am going to attempt to go, but work may get in the way. I should find out pretty soon.

Hmmm, what's up? New guy here. Looking to maybe join you guys. I'd be riding from Eighty Four, PA, about 30 minutes south of Pittsburgh. I thought I saw a couple local guys going. What are your plans? Trailering or riding? I'd be interested in riding out.

This Pittsburgh guy is trailering the bike out. I'll be trailering 2 bikes actually. Meeting up with Rob in Junction City, trailering his bike, he's flying out due to time constraints. We do the rally thing then are doing a 7 day, 2,600 mile ride. He has a link to the trip on this site somewhere. Then Rob flies home and I trailer two bikes home.

Are there any people sitting on the fence, debating on attending the rally? I've done everyone since the 1st. It's pretty cool to see other people who ride the same bike, to see their mods, get feed back on the aftermarket stuff the have installed, as well as the roads they ride. I've met a few riders at the east coast rallies who come every year, we all bring our favorite drink and hang on Friday & Saturday nights. (Marty I'll be bringing some killer bourbon this year) We have 1 rally goer from Canada, a few from California, 2 from Pennsylvania, 1 from Florida, 1 or 2 from New Mexico, and the rest are from Colorado, clustering real close to Grand Junction. Can't wait till September, see you guys there.

I am sitting on the fence. I may have a scheduling conflict, and I have to wait a week or two to sort it out. But I want to come, even if I no longer have a yellow F800S.

Wild bill - I'm still sittting on the fence as well. Just made the drive past GJ to the PNW to settle my personal affairs up there since I decided to go south for retirement.
Not sure I would be willing to ride 1100 miles each way but would consider it in a group. Based on what I saw of road conditions and construction it would be an easy 2.5 day trip but could be done in 2 longish days (for anyone in TX who might be considering going).
FWIW - I saw temps from around 95 down to the low 50s as well as wind - rain (torrential at times) and absolutely perfect riding weather...............

I'm seriously considering it. I have the time off the week leading up to the rally. It's getting home that'll be a push. Right now, my plan would be to leave on Thursday Sep 1st and return on the Tuesday Sep 13th. It'll be the longest trip I've ever taken on a bike. Definitely would be an easier decision to make if I had some company along.

The route I'm looking into would take me into Thunder Bay Canada and back down into Michigan. I'd be looking at hiking to the highest point in Michigan. Then off to the highest point in North Dakota. From there Bear Tooth Highway, down through Yellowstone, the Tetons, Salt Lake then over to Grand Junction... eight 350+ mile days. Not too hard. Two days at the Rally meeting some new folks, then it's three 525+ miles days to get home. Not sure about that.

Just an idea right now... but isn't that how it starts?

If the ride is too long how about a trailer or pickup? Really! Usually the getting there is half the fun. I do not know what part of Texas you are from but we will be riding out of Show Low AZ if you want to join us.

There are a few, One husband & wife, one coming from the great white north. There were usually 4 or 5 that came on a regular basis when we did that east coast gig. My wife will be there for a while. I think, probably...

For any folks on the fence, I just spent 3 days driving around CO and the roads and scenery are awesome. While I did not get to Grand Jct, we covered a broad area in 3 days. Ouray, Basalt, Durango, etc. and wish I had more time to cover other areas.

I have met some great folks at recent eastern F8 rallies and wish it were possible to get back here to ride. I hope all have a great time.

I just signed up. I might not come up for the whole rally but I'll be there for the brew pub at least. I'm trying to talk my friends from Vail into coming. She rides an f800st.

Riding has been nice this year. Here's a pic I took just this Sunday to get you'all ready. I never got off the bike; just pulled to the side and snapped the pic. Them ain't horses, deer or elk!

Hi all, question for ya. I registered some time ago, got confirmation of my purchase, but have not received anything in the mail.. Does the t-shirt, etc. get delivered to the individual, or to the rally? just wondering if something got lost.

You'll get it at the rally. If you don't show up it's used to clean the dead bugs off everyone's visors then it's mailed. Its best to show up.

WB, I went to Joplin, MO, to help in the relief effort and while demoing a house, I fell through the roof; caught myself on the joist with my right hand and screwed up my tendons and ligaments all around. All this to say, I won't be riding my bike for a while, so it looks like the rally is out for me! I am really bummed. If anyone wants to go in my stead, your welcome to use my registration that I paid already.

Lorenzo, more importantly what is your prognosis? Sorry to hear that. I do a lot of relief work with local CERT folks and some national stuff. Injuries seem pretty rare. Roof collapse is like Hollywood & fire rescue bundled in one.

    Are you laid up?

For what its worth I've been riding with a TFCC (Triangular FibroCartilage Complex) on right wrist with a 12" splint on for 2-3 weeks now. It's supposed to immobilize my wrist. It wasn't immobile enough as provided by custom splint gal so I bought some extra velcro and tripple wrap'd it to make it secure. Even in this condition I have 100% throttle/brake function. Signal & cancel is slightly harder, but that is not an issue.

Do you have a cast on?

Glenn, I wish I had a prognosis! They did exrays in Joplin, but too much swelling rendered it useless. Got back to Santa Fe and got exrays again and my GP said, "Well, there are no fractures. Probably your tendons. Do these exercises and you should be fine." Well, it's been over a month and I'm still not fine. I can't shake a hand, can't spin the throttle, can't do a push up. I really think I need an MRI. I think a lot more is screwed up in there that exrays just can't see.

Lorenzo, my wrist has now had 2 MRI's. The initial one did not have anything to show, so a higher level Xray was ordered. It also showed nothing. Then a final MRI was ordered, but this one was ordered with contrast, where they inject a radioactive dye in the wrist very carefully to show up as infiltrating areas that are not supposed to have any dye. It shows how the dye migrates through the damaged tissue. My tests were $3k+ each so you might have them skip the non-contrast variety, at great expense. Interestingly, my 1st MRI included an MRI at the same session of my neck. Then a few weeks ago another MRI was ordered of my ears for reasons for hearing issues. 4 MRI's in about 3 months. All covered by my HealthNet HSA since my deductible for the year is paid full up.
