The Pretender by Jackson Browne popped on my radio about a week ago and has been in my head since. Reminded me of what a great songrwriter Jackson really is. Beautiful song musically and lyrically. Probably some of the longest lyrics I have seen in a while.
Enjoy.

Kind of 'rediscovered' this song over the weekend. Running on Empty was one of my favorite albums back when released and listened to it in its entirety over the holiday break. I had the good fortune of police officer escorting me into a JB concert at the time, at no cost, though the show was in the final third. That is a whole 'nother story...lol.
Anyway, this also demonstrates Browne's songwriting skills, though he had co-writers here. It includes beautiful backing vocals which are not over-the-top like many of today's songs. And a reminder that this is recorded 'live' with no autotune or recorded tracks.
Touching lyrics, soulful piano and keyboard. Great song.

One of the lesser known songs off the eponymous Van Halen album. Though in those days one listened to the whole album, so it is probably widely known but did not see the radio air time. Great energy with Michael Anthony's great driving base, DLR is of very good voice here, and Eddie's guitar playing and tone were other-worldly on this debut. If this song does not get the blood flowing, check for a pulse.
edit - LOL....right after I posted the above, I headed upstairs to shower and decided to scrub and clean the shower. As i closed the shower door and got started, I promptly belted out, at full volume:
"I am a victim of the science age. The underground. Oh, yeah!!!!!!!" (yes - I messed up the lyrics)
The tiles and shower walls provided full DLR echo to the words and my accompanying DLR screech effect. The main bathroom door burst open and Mrs Meteor shouted, "Shuuuushh! Silence! Pleeeaaaase!!!" The veins in her neck were bulging and indicative of a healthy, strong pulse.

Listening to a little Robert Cray tonight. Great song but, from the 'album' age, this is overall an incredible album to listen to from start to finish. Peak Robert Cray in terms of mainstream popularity and his guitar work is infallible. A mix of blues and more popular style music. Great songs of love and breakups and heartache. Worth a listen.

Heard "Purple Rain" at the dentist today. First time I listened to it in a while. Reminded me of what a great song it was and how brilliant Prince was.

Good read regarding the formative years of Van Halen. I will listen to their eponymous debut album over the weekend with cocktail or two. Monster collection.

I know Neil can be polarizing but his guitar in Like a Hurricane is one of the best guitar works in my opinion. I know from a technique perspective there are better gymnastic guitarist but his ability to convey emotion and energy and use distortion in a positive way and controlled way makes this special to me. The live version is just as good. Crazy Horse is about as solid a backing set of musicians as one can find too.
For me, Neil is one of my favorite musicians. However, some material is great other stuff - not so much - but the great stuff is really great and the older stuff ages very well. And there is no denying his influence.

In honour of the surprise release of "Saskadelphia" yesterday. Turned the volume to 11 and jammed to "Twist My Arm" last night. Some real cool base lines. Will stream Saskadelphia today for first listen. I miss The Hip.

It sea like every forum I visit has one of these. Talk radio on the day, Stern usually on the morning and of they talk a lot of chit or I am at the gym, Pandora with lots of music like Papa Roach.
Amazingly, it was 45 years ago yesterday that Triumph released their debut album. While they are not a 'forgotten' band, I don't think they get credit they deserve for their musicianship, song writing skills and diverse content. To that point, turn it up and give a listen to the The Blinding Light Show / Moonchild from that first album. A journey through elements of speed metal, space rock, prog and classical guitar.
On a side note, I had the pleasure of seeing Rik Emmett perform at some small venues in his final years of touring solo and met him a couple times. A gentleman and class act. If I were a few years older, I may have been able to see Triumph live when they were together...

As a life long fully paid up member of the Robert Johnson Veneration Society I should hate this but don't, I think it's outstanding, I'd never heard of Crocked Still but stumbled across this live version of Come On In My Kitchen from 2006.
I happened upon this the other day. I had never seen it before. Strange to see Neil Young with Led Zeppelin but some interesting mashups happen at these events.

With the recent passing of Gary Brooker, this song has been stuck in my head for the past few weeks. The organ is hauntingly beautiful - along with the melody. And Gary's vocals are so heartfelt. The song has a special place because, as a young child, I remember it being a favorite song of my late mother.

My brother said he had a couple tequilas last night. This song has been in my head ever since. Love the harmonization between Grace and Kenny. Magical.
