This came up during a song shuffle today. I'd forgotten I even had this. Played it a couple of times and now the song is stuck in my head. A song to make you smile during these tough times.

Today, 21st April is the anniversary of the death of the Divinyls lead singer, Chrissy Amphlett. Passed away 21st April 2013 of breast cancer. She was also a Multiple Sclerosis sufferer. Often seen as the bad girl of Australia rock but an incredible talent. She was taken way too soon.

The Divinyls were an incredible live band during Australian rock's golden years, the 1980s.

Listening the the Tragically Hip last night. 100th Meridian is a great song with, like so many Hip songs, the energy builds as a slow roll and next thing you are dancing.

Probably old country is a lot more real than the pithy stuff that come out today.

The version I put up was from a movie and is a bit of parody but, is a pretty good rendition. My wife grew up listening the "The Son's of the Pioneers" version.

Willy, Leonard Cohen wrote so great stuff. His versions are a bit rough because he didn't have a great voice box. Dylan was the same way. But there is value in their song.
SatchMo wasn't much of a singer either but he's still a legend.
They can't all be gifted like Mrs Miller.

Amy Grant and Bart Millard from the movie "I Can Only Imagine".

I played the movie in the prison, and though I'd seen it several times in the past, when it was over my eyes...and those of all the other men there, were tearing up.

    From Wikipedia:
"I Can Only Imagine" is a song by Christian rock band MercyMe. Written and composed by lead singer Bart Millard, it was originally recorded for the band's 1999 independent album The Worship Project before being included on their 2001 major-label debut album Almost There. The song was the last to be written for The Worship Project; in writing it, Millard drew upon his thoughts about his father's death. Lyrically, it imagines what it would be like to be in front of God in heaven; it opens with just a piano before building to include guitar and drums.
After being released on October 12, 2001, as the second single from Almost There, "I Can Only Imagine" became a major success on Christian radio; it spent two weeks at No. 1 on the Radio & Records Christian AC chart and became the most-played Christian single of 2002. It became an unexpected mainstream hit in 2003, peaking at No. 71 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 5 on the BillboardAdult Contemporary chart while also hitting top 40, adult top 40, and country radio charts. The song returned to the charts after its story was adapted into a 2018 film of the same name, peaking at No. 1 on the BillboardChristian Songs chart and No. 10 on the BillboardDigital Songs chart.

A while back, I attended a gathering on the Willamette River to cleanse the river. Those in attendance were members of a Born again Christian Native American group and a Jewish Renewal group. I got my hands on the drum and with one of the a jewish Renewal group following my lead, started working it. I do have a very distant Native American connection from the 16th century and 18th century Blackfoot. I had the Chief of the group up, dancing and smiling.

For the life of me I can't figure what Native People are trying to express in the sounds they sing while pounding a drum. Those can't be words of the language can they?
It's seems to my skeptical mind that it makes no more sense than Shaboom, Shaboom or Sha na na in English lyrics.
Seems in almost all other cultures an actual story or idea is being expressed. What am i missing?

A Jewish Nigam is a wordless prayer song. Other religions and ethnic groups have similar practices world-wide.

Hello rock music fans. A nice little doco on the early days of AC DC. Worth a look.

Slit Skirts is an underrated song from Pete Townsend. Reinforces his strengths as a songwriter.

Regarding Eagles, my wife and I finally got to see them live two years ago. Unfortunately, post-Frey but still excellent. On a feeling old note, I got a haircut a few days before the concert. My barber is probably 30-35 years old and he asked if i had any plans for the weekend...typical small talk. I mentioned we were going to the Eagles concert in Philly. His response was, 'wow! real old-school.".

If was as if, when i was a kid, my parents were going to see Lawrence Welk or Elvis. LOL.
