    Hi Guys
Thinking of buying an 800ST for use through the winter (except snow and ice obviously) can anybody tell me whether the fairing and screen provides good protection against the rain ?
    Thanks - Steve

No. It is primarily a sport/touring bike and the screen and shield are designed for wind use and protection.

I have ridden in rain a number of times. Feet get soaked, and hands. Outside of the legs get wet as they are in the wind. The screen directs the wind to mid-chest so that gets wet.

Get a one-piece rainsuit, waterproof boots and gloves or slipons and you will be ok. Don't expect the fairing to do it.
ST - all options from the factory, sport panniers, stock screen Vario, "tank" mount Zumo, Throttlemeister, Stebel Nautilus, Hyperlites, Hyperpro fork springs, Centech AP-2, Evos, misc farkles and yes, it is Black and Yellow

Flopp's right... You are better protected than on a bare bike, but the water is going to come at you.

Yes the protection (even on a S) is MUCH better than on a 'naked' bike. No puddle in your crotch! I wear Goretex gear (Dane XBR) all of the time when on the bike so I don't have to stop and put the rainsuit on. Really love that stuff: great windflow (when the lining is out) and absolutely dry!

Don't ride an R1200S in the rain then, boots and bottom of trousers get caked.

I think the F800ST keeps the lower half of the body pretty dry.

Just wear goretex and you can't go wrong!

Flopp said it. I've ridden in hellacious down pours and the F800ST offers minimal protection from wind and rain. It's not as bad as a naked bike, but not a whole lot better. Get good rain gear and layer up in the cool weather.
