I had one of those Yamaha RD350s, a 1973 model in red.

I came real close to buying one in 1974. Bought a Honda 350 instead.

In 1978 I bought and rode a Moto Guzzi Robin to go back and forth to work. I could get it up to 28 miles an hour if I had my head down. Basic transportation that was getting 125+ miles to the gallon. Loved going down Main Street in traffic. I would have the thing full throttle and would go by cars that were sitting at the light as it turned green. The cars would get all fired up and blow by me midway to the next light, then have to stop at the next red light. As the light turned green, I'd blow by them starting the whole process over again.

Obviously you lived to tell about it! Good for you. I would not do that today with the issues of road rage so common.

Must confess that I'd never heard of a Guzzi Robin before so had to look it up. Turns out to be something close to a Puch Maxi that the used to sell in the UK about the same time.

Mate of mine used to have the usual knackered and neglected one back then, so bad it was that we challenged him to a race. Us on foot and him on the Puch. Being as we lived on the edge of the Black Mountains, it was a close run thing up the hill to the village but he did eventually win.

Doubt either of us would be capable of a rematch these days.

    Happy daze.
