future BMW electric motorcycles in doubt

Mar 27, 2020 - 5:10 PM - by Richard230

In Issue 1 of 2020, Cycle World magazine interviews Markus Schramm, BMW Motorrad’s director. He is quoted as making the following statement in response to a question asking if “BMW Motorrad will produce electric bikes”. Mr. Schramm says that: “In the urban environment, it is possible there will be an electric BMW motorcycle in five years. In the touring, off-road, and sport segments, I am not sure that we will see them.”

Triumph manufacturing news

Triumph is moving all of its mass-produced motorcycle production off-shore to other countries, such as Thailand and India, while keeping their design and research center and one specialty products manufacturing factory in the UK (at least that is the way that I interpret this article). Perhaps a result of Brexit?

Zero makes an electric GT

Not only does this new model, to be formally introduced on February 24, look like the BMW F800GT, but it also has a belt final drive and an upright seating position. Unfortunately, it will likely cost about 50% more than the GT and won't go nearly as far on a full "tank": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vg_G...ture=emb_title

This review from Bennett's in London is pretty in depth. When looking at the gas mileage figures, keep in mind that they are Imperial gallons, not USA gallons.
